This last weekend was our District’s annual conference, held in Llandudno. Lots of good speakers, and an opportunity to meet friends from other clubs.

A brilliant partnership between Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club, Fortem and Eurovia means pupils at Newman school can appreciate the world outside.

At last week's meeting, Anne Ogley ended her year as the club's first lady President; Andy Bates became our new President; Melanie Hughes became President Elect, and won the Terry English Award for services to the community; Trevor Johnson was given his certificate for 25 years membership of Rotary; and Andy Bates was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship - the highest award in Rotary, in recognitio

A trip to Llangollen was enjoyed by members of Rotherham Sitwell earlier this month. Just a short break of three days but there was plenty to enjoy, walking, canal boat trips over the aquaduct and a Victorian Weekend at the Llangollen Railway. Unfortunately the golfers were rained off on the Friday but the weather soon brightened up for the remainder of the weekend.

The Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell is one of just 42 Yorkshire based community groups, and one of just 9 Rotherham groups, who in it's latest round of awards have been recognised by the prestigious royal reward scheme The Duke of York's Community Initiative.

Sitwell Rotary are offering free blood pressure checks at Rotherham Town Centre Tesco's to help combat stroke. Sitwell Rotary and the Stroke Association have teamed up to help people in Rotherham take a moment and get their blood pressure tested.

Members of the club enjoyed a free training session from British Red Cross on applying first aid skills to the general public. The members looked at Hyperthermia, seizures, heavy bleeding, knocks to the head and burning along with the all essential CPR if they were to find someone in the street and was not breathing.

Chrismas Concert

Rotherham’s Talbot Lane Church is about to be seen in a totally different light – for one day only. Perhaps one of Rotherham’s best kept secrets is the sumptuously detailed stained glass altar window. Due to a huge tree allowed to grow outside the window, blocking out the morning sun, the 110 year old window has not seen the true light of day for many years.

Rotherham Show 2016

Thank you to the people of Rotherham who came and enjoyed themselves at the Rotherham Show this year, thank you for taking part in 'Pull-A-String', 'Splat the Rat' and/or purchasing some of our purple crocus bulbs for Purple4Polio, you managed to raise £500 for charity this year and we think this is fabulous.

Yorkshire Tea bag bar codes for wheel chairs

We have managed to collect enough Yorkshire Tea bag bar codes for one wheel chair and we are still collecting them to exchange for more wheel chairs for people who cannot afford them.

Please continue to collect them and pass them onto a member of the club, if you do not know one personally then you can post them to the club at Carlton Park Hotel in Rotherham.

Just to say a huge thank you for the latest donation from the Rotary Club of £500.00.

The Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell welcomed in their first lady President Ann Ogley this week. The club was formed in 1988 and was initially a male only charity, in 2012 the club celebrated in welcoming Ann as their first lady member and is now celebrating again with her as she takes the prestigious role of being the club's first lady President.

We are collecting used postage stamps for recycling to raise money for our charities, please save your stamps and pass them on to one of our friendly Rotarians, please don't crop them too close to the stamp so as not to damage the perforations and generally leave no more than one centimetre around the edge of the stamp.
