Up the Amazon without a Paddle

Up the Amazon without a Paddle

Last Thursday was a Speaker Meeting and the talk was given by our very own Ann Ogley. When most of us think of a holiday we picture ourselves lying on a sun-soaked beach sipping our favourite cocktail. Ann views her holidays rather differently and following on from her adventures climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and riding elephants in the Sumatran jungle, she entertained her audience with an account of her latest escapade up the Amazon river.
We heard about her sleeping arrangements comprising a hammock strung between trees with only a mosquito net and a tarpaulin for cover. Not very much considering the torrential rain for a lot of the time.
Other highlights included cooking over an open fire, wading through the river, catching piranha fish and not to mention the toilet arrangements!!
Ann achieved several objectives during the adventure, ( I hesitate to call it a holiday ), one of which was to see the very elusive pink dolphin in the Amazon river. Another was to raise the fantastic sum of around £800 for charity.
Well done Ann and thanks for a very interesting talk and I hope that your feet have dried out.
