Visit to the Club by Dr Cheryle Berry MBE, District Governor for Rotary District 1220

On 22nd November 2018, the Rotary Club of Rotherham Sitwell welcomed District Governor Cheryle Berry MBE. Members were very taken with her warm personality and her clear focus of actively bringing to life the Rotary theme of "Be the Inspiration".
Cheryle impressed on us the importance of Rotary’s impact on global campaigns such as End Polio Now (“Finish the job – don’t let it come back”) as well as more local attention “working for the community, in the community”.
What struck members was Cheryle’s personal efforts which went far beyond words. For example, she visits annually India in support of the home for orphaned and destitute children in the Hope Village in Kerala, Southern India. Although this might be something not many of us could do, it was heartening to hear her say that without Rotary support, she wouldn’t be able to do this work.
Closer to home, over many years, Cheryle has worked with St John Ambulance. She has a vision for there to be a first aider on every street throughout the country. To achieve her vision, Cheryle has teamed up with "Virtual College" , an online training provider who will be providing free training courses for the Community Save a Life Scheme. This has already been trialled and was launched at the Houses of Parliament at the end of October 2018. This could be something that our Club can follow up and certainly links strongly with one of our own Charities – Start-a-Heart 24/7. Af the end of the evening, Cheryle spoke with Trish Lister and was amazed by the achievements of this local charity and the support Rotary has given.
After the meeting, Cheryle wrote to President Mel to thank her for her evening with us. She wrote:
“Thank you so much for your very warm Welcome and Hospitality last Night. It was lovely joining you all and I am so proud of all the wonderful work you and your Club do in the Local Community and Internationally. Your Website is the best one I have seen.
It was a real Treat to meet Danny and Joe and hear of their recent fantastic Trip to Romania. Also, to hear more about the superb Defibrillator Campaign.
Well done !!
I am so very grateful that you are willing to pass on the Leaflets about the" Save a Life "Campaign.
Wishing you all every Success and Happiness
Dr Cheryle Berry MBE
