Visit to Crich Tramway Village on Sunday, 12 August

Club members and their partners visited the Crich Tramway Museum last Sunday 12 August. The visit coincided with a WWII Home Front Reenactment day. In addition to riding the trams and looking around the tram museum, many of the visitors on the day were dressed in World War II uniforms and civvies. There were also quite a few old military vehicles from the same era. We particularly enjoyed the bandstand with music by Glenn Miller and some really good singers performing the old wartime favourites. We had to explain to President Mel about Flanagan and Allen and Vera Lynn as she is too young to remember!

Fortified by bacon butties and hot pork sandwiches we watched the parade of military personnel and vehicles. There was a short poignant Service of Remembrance to remember the Fallen and then another sing along to period songs. The pub did a roaring trade and there were plenty of other eating and drinking establishments that we made full use of.

All in all it was a brilliant day despite a damp start. We finished it off with a meal at the North East Derbyshire snooker club which despite its name turned out to be an excellent hostelry. Our thanks go to President Mel for organising the visit.
