Rotherham Talking Newspaper

Submitted by waudbypeter@ho… on 1 November 2023

Rotherham Talking Newspaper provides a weekly service of 80 minutes of local news from the Rotherham Advertiser and a 60 minute magazine in digital format. Originally intended for the blind and visually impaired, it extended its reach 2 years ago to include the elderly and those of any age who had suffered debilitating conditions such as stroke and motor neurone disease. From humble beginnings the broadcast is now circulated by CDs, tape, memory sticks and flash drive.

The photo shows the well equipped recording studio. There are further rooms where the recordings are transferred to a variety of media ready for circulation by Freepost to all their clients. None of this would be possible without volunteers on the technical side and those willing to find and read articles for the Magazine.

Following my visit to the Studio in Rosehill Park the idea of contributing to the Magazine was discussed at the Community Committee meeting. We agreed unanimously to move the project forward and to invite any other members of the Club who wish to be involved.
