September 2020

Despite all the issues presented by the restrictions caused by Covid-19, new sensory equipment has been installed at Newman School. The equipment should stimulate multi-sensory communication and contribute to an improved quality of life for children and young people with physical disabilities, medical needs and complex learning needs.

We were approached recently by Wortley Rotary offering to supply visors and masks to Rotherham food banks. Long standing Wortley Rotarian Lewis Atkinson has negotiated the supply of over 10,000 items of PPE to those in need throughout South Yorkshire.

Pushpa Venkatraman, a resident of Duke of Norfolk estate, started an initiative to support hospice and other healthcare sectors with PPE. She coordinated a group of ladies and provided fabric for making scrubs for use at the Rotherham District General Hospital as well as masks for the vulnerable.

The Fellowship meeting last night 3 September was a quiz night with an International theme and including some (singalong) music. As usual I was left thinking how little general knowledge I have (must watch more tv quiz shows). The winner with a very commendable score was Martin Davis.

Our support for Rotherham Foodbank and other local charities during the Covid-19 pandemic has been recognised by our local MP's. We have received congratulatory messages from Alexander Stafford, MP for Rother Valley, John Healey, MP for Wentworth and Dearne and Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham. Their messages are attached.
