‘WE TOOK TO THE WATER’ for an adventure for our club meeting on 11th August. We had a trip on a canal boat for our meeting on a beautiful summer evening . The  sun was shining and the water was calm ,the swans were watching us go by in disgust as we disturbed their peaceful evening. Our canal boat was skippered by our member Tom Knight who kept us safe and sound. We sat through his safety talk feeling very confident of his ability to steer us down the canal. No, sorry, this part of the waterway was called a Navigation so I was informed by a member of the Swinton Lock Activity centre who was an a crew member. The boat did belong to the centre. We met at the Gorilla Pub and Brewery which is situated by the waterside in Mexborough and had 2 one hour cruises as we had to split the group into 2 parties as the boats passenger limit was 12. It was a great evening as we had members, partners and guests mixing well . We were able to eat by the water in the pub and beer brewed on the premises at £3 a pint went down very well. It was a social evening meeting and seemed to be enjoyed by all and helped us bond together more.  The passengers donated £200 to the activity centre from a collection on the boat to continue with their help for the Needy in Rotherham.
