MAPLES CANCER CARE; DO NOT FACE CANCER ALONE

MAPLES CANCER CARE; DO NOT FACE CANCER ALONE

The team at Maples Cancer Care on Badsley Moor Lane know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything in your life, and they believe no one should face cancer alone.
Rotherham Sitwell Rotary Club has supported the Centre over the last six years, and our members have been happy to be involved.
People affected by cancer have individual needs that cannot always be fully addressed by their health care providers and social networks. The Centre is a place for people to go where someone can help them deal with the way cancer has affected them and their life. They provide emotional and psychological support through assessment, counselling and complementary therapies, to help people feel more in control, more confident and more able to cope. Maples can offer this help both to those who have received a diagnosis of cancer and also for their main carer. They will see people at any stage of illness or if they have ongoing concerns that are unresolved, even if this is some time later.

Here are comments from some Maples clients:
“The moment I walked through the door, I knew I had made the right decision to attend the Centre. Everyone at the Centre is kind, compassionate, understanding and caring, and to talk to people who understood how I was feeling made such a difference to me”
“It is such a comfort to me to know this Centre exists and that I can rely on the staff there when I need them. After so many appointments at different hospitals it was like a breath of fresh air and so calming. They gave me the skills to be able to deal with my fears and concerns which has enabled me to regain a quality of life”
“I live alone and found my diagnosis very frightening, especially not having someone to talk to about how I was feeling. I didn’t know what to expect on my first visit but I was put at ease immediately. Talking to someone was the main benefit for me and I looked forward to my sessions each week”
It is wonderful that clients and their families want to raise money for the Centre after benefitting from the support: in the photo above, Ruth Carr and her mum Julie are presenting a cheque from their garden party.
