Charter Evening Visitors

Submitted by Anonymous on 5 October 2017

It’s always a pleasure – and of course a source of pride – when visitors make significant efforts to join us for any meeting but particularly our Charter Night. This was very much the case on our 2017 Charter Night on 31st August 2017. We received an excellent and highly amusing vote of thanks from Geoffrey Harbord, formerly of Rotherham Sitwell but now Abbeydale Rotary Club. His address was appreciated by all - including the comedian who did such a good job in pitching his act for our Rotary Club’s Birthday Party. In addition to our partners and friends, we also welcomed other visitors from our Mother Club Rotherham as well as Dronfield, Retford, Sheffield and Wortley. They all added to the overall success of the evening.
As well as visitors from our Rotary District, we also welcomed one visitor all the way from Mumbai in India. Not long before the Charter Night President Andrew was emailed by Rotarian Doctor Paresh, to ask if it was possible for his son and nephew, who were currently in Sheffield, to visit our Club on 31st August. The fact that this was Charter Night was not a problem and arrangements were made by our excellent administration team to include our visitors.
On the evening, only one of our visitors, Tanay Thakkar, was able to attend: unfortunately, his cousin, Jay was very involved with his final studies for his Master of Science studies. It was a real pleasure to welcome Tanay to what was his first visit to any Rotary Club let alone one in Rotherham! After the visit, Tanay wrote to us to say how much he had enjoyed the evening.
“I would like to thank everyone in the club for the warm-hearted welcome extended to me on such a short notice. The club truly embodies Friendship Fellowship and Fun, which was reflected so clearly from the events of the evening. Once again it was great to be a part of your prestigious evening”.
Tanay shared with us the Rotary Club banner and brochure of Mulund Hills, Mumbai which is the Club of his uncle Rotarian Dr Paresh. He received our Club Banner which he will be delivering to his Uncle’s Rotary Club on his return to Mumbai. Tanay was great company and we wish him well in his career in dental technology.
Overall, the attendance of a wide range of visitors contributed to the success of this special event in our Club’s Programme.

P.S Tanay subsequently made a report of his visit and this was printed in the bulletin of the Rotary Club of Mulund Hills in Mumbai. A copy of the report is shown in the last photograph.
