Foundation and International News
Chris Croker, Chair of our Foundation and International Committee reports that following the fundraising activities over the festive season, the committee is now in the position of knowing what their budget is for the year and therefore is able to consider distribution of some of the funds. Also they are in the fortunate position of having more to distribute thanks to a generous donation by a club member.
The first Charity to be supported is PEAS (PROMOTING EQUALITY IN AFRICAN SCHOOLS ) Uganda. To quote this Charity, “their mission is just getting girls into school and supporting them to succeed in a nurturing environment where they can truly survive and seeing their futures transformed in ways never imagined”. PEAS has won the UNESCO Prize for girls and women’s education.
Secondly, we decided to support our District Governor’s request for donations to the BUSOGA TRUST which is a charity that brings clean, safe water to rural communities in Uganda through the construction and rehabilitation of wells and boreholes.
The third charity we are supporting is Smile Train which our committee supported last year and you may recall helps with oral education, orthodontics and the surgical repair of cleft palates, the latter transforming the life of the individual, giving them confidence and being accepted more easily into their community.
Each of the three charities will receive £300.
